Knife Laws QLD
Author: Amanda Evans Date Posted:26 August 2024
There are new laws which come into effect in Queensland from 1st September 2024 which mean that knives and other items will be considered controlled items. It will be illegal to sell knives and other controlled items to anyone under 18 years.
Acceptable evidence of age may be required. Sellers must ensure controlled items are not sold to minors under 18 years and this will require age checks, staff instruction, in-store signage, and advertising restrictions.
Knives and box cutters are considered a controlled item and as such, will only be sold as a click and collect item. Please note that proof of age may be checked in-store.
Acceptable evidence of age is a driver's licence, proof of age card, or passport, which includes a photo of the person and indicates their age by their date of birth or otherwise that they have attainted a particular age.
Please be aware that sale of this item will be voided if sales staff are not satisfied of this age assessment at the time of collection.
